Generally described as the daughter of Hanina ben Tredion and the wife of Rabbi Meir, Beruriah was a female scholar accepted by the Sages as one of their own.When studying the texts in which Beruriah is featured, not only is her clarity of thought and erudition visible, but in addition one can discern the role of women in the Mishnaic era. Scholars of the TalmudĀ  today argue whether Beruriah was indeed one woman, or a group of different women with the same name.
